Boston Red Sox and Liverpool FC owner John Henry and wife Linda Pizzuti Henry have invested in comedy Lucky Them, the indie film that was Paul Newman's final producing project and has been assumed by his widow, Joanne Woodward.
Marisa Tomei (The Lincoln Lawyer), Alec Baldwin (Rock of Ages) and Thomas Haden Church (Paul in Another Happy Day) starring a film; Allison Janney ( Charlotte in the upcoming The Help) is also attached.
The script was written by Emily Wachtel and Huck Botko and is circling around female rock scribe who's on the hunt for her ex-partner.
Botko, a writer on The Last Exorcism (2010) and the writer-helmer of The Virginity Hit (2010) and Mail Order Wife (2004) is also set to direct.
Production schedule for Lucky Them is still under wraps, even though the plan is reportedly to shoot this film in Gotham or New York, whatever, later this year.
Pizzuti Henry said by e-mail:
We have been great fans of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward and had gotten to know them. We admire the work that they have both done professionally, personally, and philanthropically. When we learned the details about Paul's last movie project, which boasts a terrific team of writers, cast, and Joanne Woodward as executive producer, we were eager to get involved.”
This project isn't Henry and Pizzuti Henry's first experience doing business with Hollywood; the pair is close with Ben Mezrich (whose books are made into movies 21 and The Social Network), and Henry has a hand in Moneyball (partially rewrote the script), which stars Brad Pitt and hits theaters later this year.
