The Alien prequel is dead – a new Ridley Scott project has been reborn. Twentieth Century Fox officially announced the new Ridley Scott production as Prometheus is now bound for worldwide release on March 9th, 2012. Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof are rescuing the script's corpse by renovating the original idea into a new film titled Prometheus.
Fox has announced that instead of making a empty speech about Alien movie, the project has been fixed up as an original sci-fi movie, titled Prometheus, with Scott still at the wheel and with Noomi Rapace to star. Scott stated,
The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn't be more pleased to have found the singular tale I'd been searching for, and finally return to this genre that's so close to my heart.”
It was under Lindelof that the project transformed into something more original. He said,
In a world flooded with prequels, sequels and reboots, I was incredibly struck by just how original Ridley's vision was for this movie. It's daring, visceral and hopefully, the last thing anyone expects.”
Coming back to science fiction filmmaking for the first time since Blade Runner, Scott will direct this epic. Of the five major roles to be cast, Noomi Rapace (Lisbeth Salander in the film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) is the first actor signed to star (as Elizabeth Shaw), and we hear that Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron are both eyeing up the other big female lead. Dariusz Wolski (Alice in Wonderland, POTC 4) will shoot in 3D using the RED Epic cameras and legendary Alien creature designer H.R. Ginger is alleged to be on board.
