The future of the “Sicario” franchise remains uncertain as key collaborators have departed the project, but lead actor Josh Brolin remains hopeful that the film will move forward.
In a recent interview, Brolin revealed that “Mission: Impossible” filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie, who was previously involved in the development of “Sicario 3,” is no longer attached to the project. Additionally, the status of Taylor Sheridan, the original screenwriter for the first two “Sicario” films, is unclear.
Chris [McQuarrie] was involved for a while, but he's not now, and I don't know about [Taylor] Sheridan,” Brolin said. “I know him really well, but I don't know if he's onboard or not.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the creative team, Brolin expressed that the project is “getting closer” to becoming a reality, though he acknowledged that the story is still in development.
The first two “Sicario” films, directed by Denis Villeneuve, were well-received critically and commercially, with Brolin, Emily Blunt, and Benicio del Toro starring in the lead roles. Villeneuve, however, has previously indicated that he would not be involved in a third installment.
As fans eagerly await updates on the future of the “Sicario” franchise, the departure of key collaborators raises questions about the direction and creative vision for the potential third film. Will the project be able to recapture the gritty intensity and critical acclaim of the previous installments, or will it face significant challenges in moving forward?
