A laughable film, the low budget
Chopping Mall, but one of my favorite B-movies appears that has finally found a home for remake.
Robert Hall‘s Dry County Entertainment (2009 Fear Clinic horror series for FEARnet) has acquired the remake rights of the mid 80s horror title.
One of the most respected and profilic special effects makeup artists in Hollywood Robert Hall and his producing partner
Kevin Bocarde (television production manager) will produce and write the film. Hall is also set to direct with shooting now set to begin this upcoming spring.
The original killer-robot flick was directed-scribed by Jim Wynorski and was produced by Roger Corman and his wife Julie. It was originally released on March 21st, 1986 under the title Killbots. The plot centers on killer security robots taking over a shopping mall and murdering teenage employees.
Bocarde said the new version won’t be just a straight remake with new actors, but
It will retain the basic concept of young people trapped in a mall; however, the story will have a darker, supernatural spin.
If nothing else, Chopping Mall is a great movie title and I think the best way to remake Chopping Mall is to expand the idea, make it bigger. Interesting thing about this project is that Hall had started in show business at Corman’s studio. He added:
This is an exciting way to pay homage and honor Roger while also expanding the original film’s premise.
