Here comes another young-adult novel adaptation. We’ve just learned that Susannah Grant, lady responsible for Erin Brockovich screenplay, is set to adapt Rick Yancey‘s novel The 5th Wave for Sony. Described as The Passage meets Ender’s Game, the novel revolves around a young girl who survives an alien invasion, and as you’re about to see in the rest of this report – guarantees a lot of supernatural action…
So, at this moment we know that The 5th Wave is the first in a planned trilogy which centers on a 16-year-old girl named Cassie, one of the remaining survivors following an alien attack.
Now, Cassie has to search for her brother who might have been abducted by human-looking extraterrestrials, and she is helped by a boy who also might be an alien in disguise. Smells like another teen romance set against the backdrop of a future in peril?
And just in case you want to read more details, here’s the official description of Yancey’s novel:
After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one. Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother, or even saving herself.
And that’s basically all we know about the project at this moment. Let us also add that Tobey Maguire’s Material Pictures and GK Films are on board to produce the movie, and as usual – with every new updates on The 5th Wave, we’ll be back!
