Warner Bros. has announced a new Lord of the Rings film titled “The Hunt for Gollum” set to release in 2026. The film will be directed by and star Andy Serkis as Gollum, with Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens producing.
The project is in the early stages of script development, with Serkis collaborating once again with Lord of the Rings veterans Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens, who will be involved “every step of the way.” The film is expected to explore new storylines within the Lord of the Rings universe.
While plot details remain scarce, the title “The Hunt for Gollum” suggests the film may be set during the time when Gandalf dispatches Aragorn to track down the elusive Gollum, fearing he may reveal information about the One Ring to Sauron.
With the original Lord of the Rings trilogy having grossed nearly $3 billion worldwide and won 17 Academy Awards, Warner Bros. is clearly aiming to recapture the magic of Middle-earth for a new generation of fans.
