Tom Cruise Teams Up with Alejandro Iñárritu: New Film and What’s Next After MI8

Tom Cruise may have wrapped up his action-packed run in the eighth installment of Mission: Impossible, but the iconic actor isn't taking a break. Instead, Cruise is leaping into another high-profile project, teaming up with acclaimed filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman, The Revenant). The new film is set to begin production as early as next month in the UK, with Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment backing the project. The script, written by Iñárritu, Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Sabina Berman, is shrouded in secrecy, with plot details still under wraps.

The cast is shaping up to be as impressive as the creative team, featuring Sandra Hüller (Toni Erdmann), John Goodman (The Big Lebowski), Michael Stuhlbarg (Call Me by Your Name), Jesse Plemons (The Power of the Dog), and rising star Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me). With Iñárritu's unique cinematic style and Cruise's track record for choosing compelling roles, this project promises to be one of the most intriguing films on the horizon.

Following the film's production, Cruise will embark on promotional rounds for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, set to release in late May 2025. The eighth Mission film will conclude the high-stakes adventures of Ethan Hunt and is anticipated to be one of the franchise's most thrilling installments yet.

But that's not all on Cruise's agenda. He's set to dive into Broadsword, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, in the latter half of 2025. This World War II drama is rumored to star Marion Cotillard and Henry Cavill, centering on a marine captain who survives a crash in Nazi-occupied France.

Cruise's choices reflect a diverse range of projects that showcase his dedication to not only action-packed roles but also complex, character-driven stories.

Tom Cruise's next move is an exciting one. Partnering with Iñárritu signals a potential shift from action to more dramatic roles, a space where Cruise has shone in the past. This new project, along with his commitment to upcoming films like Broadsword, highlights his desire to keep evolving as an actor, embracing a mix of blockbuster and auteur-driven films.

What are your thoughts on Tom Cruise teaming up with Alejandro Iñárritu? Do you think this collaboration could be the start of a new phase in his career?
