The Lone Ranger – Trailer (1956)
Tom Wilkinson to Play Lead Villain in Gore Verbinski’s Update of THE LONE RANGER
Tom Wilkinson is a twice Oscar nominated British veteran actor who won Golden Globe and is now just about re-locked in to play The Lone Ranger‘s chief villain, a railroad tycoon in the Old West by the name of Latham Cole.
Disney has shut down production on The Lone Ranger, the Gore Verbinski-directed upcoming action reboot of the classic Hollywood western hero that was to star Armie Hammer leading and Johnny Depp as Tonto, as well as Ruth Wilson (Luther) as the female lead Rebecca Reid.
In addition, the supporting cast includes Helena Bonham Carter, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale and Dwight Yoakum. So, the cast is set and production on the $215 million Western begins in February with the film that arrives May 31st, 2013.
Armie Hammer is set to play the titular Texas Ranger who first showed up as a serialized radio hero in 1933. Johnny Depp is, like I said, playing Tonto, the masked western avenger's Native American sidekick and good buddy. The film, which has a screenplay by Justin Haythe, Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, is likely to invert that relationship at least a little though.
Finally, after several starts and stops, Disney have reason to believe that The Lone Ranger will repeat the success of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
As of late Wilkinson played Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr., in the 2011 television miniseries The Kennedys, for which he gained an Emmy Award nomination and earlier that year, he released The Green Hornet. He will also appear in an upcoming Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
