We already shared the official
trailer, some great
featurettes (including
Citizens of Elysium with more concept art),
pics and
posters for the movie, so I’m sure you know all important details about this great-looking thriller which is set to hit theaters on August 9th, 2013.
In this week’s cover story,
EW goes inside the making of
Elysium, and I definitely like their description of the whole thing:
…how Matt Damon and the director of District 9 turned a timely tale of haves and have-nots into a gripping sci-fi thriller…
That’s exactly the point with this film: it takes place on both a ravaged Earth and a luxurious space habitat, and explores political and sociological themes such as immigration, health care and class issues. So it’s safe to say that this isn’t science fiction. This is today. This is now. And that’s the most terrifying fact about this pic.
Damon plays the only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds, a guy named Max who is in desperate need to get to Elysium.
With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.
The rest of the cast includes
Jodie Foster,
Sharlto Copley,
Alice Braga,
Diego Luna,
William Fichtner and
Wagner Moura.
