Gigi Chao is the daughter of a Hong Kong tycoon Cecil Chao who has offered $65 million to any man who can woo her away from her lesbian partner – the story of the chairman of Hong Kong property developer who has a reputation for being a playboy and once claimed to have had ‘intimate relations’ with about 10,000 women, already sounded like the plot of a movie.
Now it’s going Hollywood thanks to funny man Sacha Baron Cohen who has just signed a deal with Paramount to develop The Lesbian, a comedic spin on the true story of Cecil Chao.
Cohen will also produce through his Four By Two Films and the film has yet to acquire a writer and director to the project.
Cohen is usually at his best when he’s dealing with real people rather than scripted situations, and this time he overextended himself.
It will be no doubt interesting to see how The Lesbian develops.
Baron Cohen will next be seen as hotelier Thenardier alongside Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe in the all-star film adaptation of the longest-running musical in West End history, Les Miserables.
