Brad Pitt to star in Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards”?

Brad PittBrad Pitt might be one of the lead roles in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming World War Two film “Inglorious Bastards.”

The Oscar-winning writer-director has confirmed he will start production in October on his long-gestating World War II epic, “Inglorious Bastards.” And while there’s been no official announcement, Pitt’s name has surfaced for one of the leads.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Tarantino plans to do the bulk of the shooting in Europe:

Since the production will film in Europe and is looking toward an accelerated production schedule so that it can be finished in time to submit to May’s Festival de Cannes, the Weinsteins are looking to join forces with a major studio to come aboard to co-finance in exchange for foreign rights.

That would seem to fit Pitt’s schedule, having set up a homebase in France awaiting Angelina Jolie’s birth.

Quentin Tarantino’s next movie - “Inglorious Bastards”

Posted by Fiona 20 June, 2008 (0) Comment

Quentin TarantinoSet in World War 2, the story revolves around a group of soldiers on their way to be executed, only they get the chance for a reprieval.

Inglorious Bastards” has been in the works for over 5 years now, but during the Cannes Film Festival, Tarantino promised to return next year with his new film.

”The next movie I’m doing is my World War II movie. I just finished up the first draft and if all goes well, I will be here, in Cannes, in 2009 with “Inglorious Bastards”, Tarantino said.

“As Quentin has been writing this, he’s done so much research into the actual events of World War II as well as the cinema of World War 2, that the story kept growing and growing. It became too big for one film, so he’s turned it into 2. That’s right, “Inglorious Bastards” will be two movies.” says Enzo Castellari, the director of the original “Inglorious Bastards”, according to AICN.

“The premise is the basic jumping off point from Enzo’s original - that you had a bunch of hardened criminals on a military transport during World War II - that got ambushed by the Nazis. Everyone but the criminals gets killed and the prisoners decide to make their way to neutral Switzerland - and must fight the Nazis and the Allies to get there”, Tarantino said about his new movie.

Almost every big Hollywood name has been rumored to star in the “Inglorious Bastards”, but Tarantino writes the script without any actor in mind.

Tarantino’s Cannes Masterclass

Posted by Fiona 23 May, 2008 (0) Comment

Quentin TarantinoQuentin Tarantino delivered an expletive-laden Cinema Masterclass at Cannes Thursday in which he mixed tips on movie-making with reflections on his own greatness.

“At the end of the day if there’s one thing I’m doing it’s forging a new type of comedy,” he said, noting that his violence-filled oeuvre gave people a “thrill” because it made them “laugh at things that aren’t usually funny.”

“Trying to make a feature film yourself with no money is the best film school you can do” he said, recounting how he spent three years making his first film during his weekends off work.

Spaghetti westerns, kung fu flicks and Brian da Palma were his inspiration, said Tarantino, who took home the Cannes film fest’s coveted Palme d’Or award in 1994 for “Pulp Fiction.”

Tarantino fits his own films into two categories:

There are the hyper-realistic movies like his 1992 debut feature “Reservoir Dogs,” a botched jewel heist story whose ensemble cast includes Harvey Keitel and Tim Roth, and “Pulp Fiction,” another crime drama starring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman.

And then there are the “movie movies,” he said, which include the two “Kill Bill” films and “Death Proof,” which pay tribute to genres such as martial arts movies, samurai movies and serial killer films.

“I look on ‘Kill Bill’ as my ‘Apocalypse Now‘,” he said.

Tarantino, whose “Death Proof” last year failed to scoop the Palme d’Or here, is noted for the use he makes of music, picking pop classics or music from cult television series.

“I have one of the best soundtrack collections in America. I just don’t trust any composer to do it. Who the fuck is this guy coming in here and throwing his shit over my movie. What if I don’t like it? And the guy’s already been paid!”.

Previous directors who have given the Masterclass here include Martin Scorsese, Nanni Moretti, Wong Kar Wai and Sydney Pollack.

“I want to make movies, I have to make movies. The reason I don’t make more movies is that I want to live life in between. I give it all to the movies, and it’s like I’m climbing Mount Everest every time. When I get off the mountain then I want to be able to enjoy some time in the chalet at the bottom. But the real, real reason I don’t want to make more movies is that
I’m a writer, and I always have to start with the blank page and that’s hard. Nothing you’ve done before means a damn when you’ve got to start all over again.”
