John Woo to Direct Le Samourai and The Killer Remake

John WooDirector John Woo is quite busy and very ambitious when it comes to his plans for the future projects.

He announced that his next, and in the same time his first IMAX film, will be a $90 million WWII film called Flying Tigers, and today we’re here to report that the director revealed he’s still working on two English language remakes, both of which will be based off of films currently in the Criterion Collection.

The first one will be the remake on Jean-Pierre Melville’s film, Le Samourai and the second one, his own movie The Killer.

No surprise when it comes to Melville’s classic, cool gangster film which Woo praised “as one of his greatest influences”. Woo’s interest in Le Samourai now is “to make it into a modern film.”

The Killer, on the other hand is a little surprise. We all know the story of “an assassin who is forced to join forces with a policeman after being betrayed by his employers”, so what’s actually a point in remaking the familiar one?

And, at the end, Woo looks quite opened for other genre films. He tends to stick to action, but still he revealed that there are plans to:

“…make a musical is my lifelong dream. It’s hard, though. I’m so glad to be a filmmaker, and to have gained so many friends in the business. I think I’m dreaming.”

We thought that, for a minute too, but still, we’re happy to hear that this director said:

“I haven’t given up on Hollywood!”

Welcome back, John Woo!
