Whether it's a first date or a holiday gathering with friends or family, movies are a big part of our memory.The Academy Awards not only honour the excellence of these movies, but also celebrate what they mean to us as a culture and to each of us individually.The nominations for the 84th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 24th, 2012, at 5:30am PST at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Billy Crystal will host the Oscars ceremony on February 26th, 2012 at the Kodak Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Centre, which will mark Crystal's ninth time as host. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled the poster for the 84th Academy Awards this morning – one-sheet, which pays homage to several great Best Picture winners of the classic gold statue spanning eight decades.
The Godfather, Forrest Gump, Gone with the Wind, Gladiator, The Sound of Music, Casablanca, Giant and Driving Miss Daisy are included to represent one movie from each decade since the 1930s, supported by the tagline ‘Life. Camera. Action.' along with ‘Celebrate the movies in all of us.' All the films featured on the new artwork were Best Picture winners except for Giant for which George Stevens was named Best Director.
The promotional poster was created by award-winning artist Anthony Goldschmidt, alongside Mark and Karen Crawford of the design firm Blood&Chocolate.
Academy President Tom Sherak, whose remarkable career has seen him at the pinnacle of motion picture marketing, told press:
