Cannes 2012 Directors’ Fortnight: Pablo Larrain’s NO Starring Gael Garcia Bernal Takes Top Prize

No-Gael-Garcia-Bernal-Pablo-Larrain They already called it – Cannes sensation. Simply titled No, Pablo Larrain‘s latest project won one big “yes” at this year's Cannes Film Festival. Yeah, that's right, the movie which stars Gael Garcia Bernal in the leading role, won the top prize at Cannes 44th Directors' Fortnight. Well done, indeed! Check out the rest of this report to find more about this movie, and see the rest of the winners… In case you're not so familiar with this title, I'm happy to inform you that No is based on true events, and centers on an ad man, played by Garcia Bernal, who, when Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet staged a referendum in 1988 to gain a further eight-year term in office, launched a brilliantly upbeat ad campaign which, against all odds, ousted Pinochet from power. But, it's not all about Larrain's movie. Merzak Allouache's psychological drama titled The Repentant also won the Europa Cinemas prize for best European film, while Noemie Lvovsky's romance Camille Rewinds won the French language film trophy. And let's not forget Nuri Bilge Ceylan who also picked up the Carosse d'Or Prize. Congratulations to all of them!
