Despues de Lucia

And the award goes to – Michel Franco‘s latest project titled Despues de Lucia (After Lucia)! Congrats to the winner of the top prize in Un Certain Regard section of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival!

Un Certain Regard kicked off on May 17 with Lou Ye’s “Mystery” and wrapped Saturday with Gilles Bourdos’ “Renoir”. As for Franco, he sure deserves all the attention he gets, especially because his movie deals with quite serious problems.

Described as disturbing film, Despues de Lucia actually explores bullying and adolescence and follows a daughter named Alejandra (played by Tessa Norvind) and her father (played by Gonzalo Vega Jr.), who move to Mexico City for a fresh start. She is new at school, and her dad has a new job. But, starting over is sometimes complicated when you have left so much behind…

As for the rest of the winners, let us also mention that a Special Jury Prize went to Benoit Delepine and Gustave Kervern’s “Le Grand Soir” while a Special Distinction of the Jury award went to Aida Begic’s “Children of Sarajevo”.

When it comes to the Best Actress, the award was shared by Suzanne Clement (for her involvement in “Laurence Anyways”) and Emilie Dequenne (for her role in “A Perdre la Raison”).

The decision was decided by a jury presided over by actor and director Tim Roth.
