Benedict Cumberbatch: First Look At THE IMITATION GAME

turing-statue Dr Alan Turing, a computer pioneer and codebreaker whose work proved vital to Allied forces in World War Two is the subject of a film called The Imitation Game, with Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role. We now have the first image, coming just after Queen Elizabeth II announced a posthumous royal pardon for his 1952 conviction of homosexuality. A genius mathematician who cracked Nazi Germany’s Enigma code during World War II, which subsequently shortened the length of the conflict, was criminally prosecuted on charges of “gross indecency”, and sentenced to chemical castration. Two years later, Turing took his own life by eating an apple laced with cyanide. The official Royal Pardon was finally issued on Christmas Eve, 61 years after his death. The Scandinavian filmmaker Morten Tyldum (Headhunters) is directing from a script by Graham Moore (2011 Black Llist), based on the biography “Alan Turing:The Enigma” by Andrew Hodges. The British historical drama also stars Keira Knightley, Mark Strong, Matthew Goode, Rory Kinnear, Charles Dance, Allen Leech, and Matthew Beard. The Imitation Game is expected to be released sometime in 2014, but no word yet on a US release. Take a look at photo that probably shows Turing at work at the code breaking center in Bletchley Park and was for a time head of Hut 8, the section responsible for German naval cryptanalysis. benedict-cumberbatch-the-imitation-game
