A Triumph at Cannes: Sean Baker’s ‘Anora’ Wins Palme d’Or

In a twist that happened at Cannes Film Festival 77, Sean Baker's latest movie Anora emerged the overall winner and received the Palme d'Or. This success can be impressive for Baker, who has previously shot such movies as “The Florida Project,” and proves his determination to continue creating indie films.

Baker's triumph is also a triumph of independent distributor Neon, which for the fifth time in a row received the Palme d'Or. This list comprises critically acclaimed movies such as Parasite and Titane which established Neon as the kind of company that supports innovative movies.

Unexpected Wins and Honorable Mentions

The deserving winner among them was ‘Anora' however the competition was equally tough from films like Indian drama ‘All We Imagine As Light' and the movie from Iran ‘The Seed of the Sacred Fig' which also won some appreciation. The latter was awarded for its tender portrayal of oppression by the Iranian regime despite the danger that its director, Mohammad Rasoulof, was in.
