‘Alien: Earth’ Teaser Trailer Confirms Timeline and Summer 2025 Premiere

A newly released teaser trailer for FX’s Alien: Earth unveils its setting in 2120, two years before Alien (1979), with an Earth-based story of survival against terrifying threats.

FX's highly anticipated Alien: Earth has reignited excitement among fans of the iconic franchise. Following a brief teaser earlier this year, a more detailed trailer confirms the show's timeline as 2120—situating the series just two years before the events of Ridley Scott's original Alien (1979). Scheduled for a Summer 2025 premiere, Alien: Earth is poised to deliver fresh horrors with a bold, Earth-based narrative.

Developed by Noah Hawley, known for Fargo and Legion, the series explores an unexpected crash landing of a mysterious spacecraft on Earth. This event forces a young woman and a team of tactical soldiers to confront an unprecedented threat, raising the stakes for humanity. The story promises an intense blend of sci-fi and horror, showcasing encounters with predatory life forms that challenge survival instincts and redefine Earth's future.

Adding depth to the narrative is the show's focus on the formation of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and its early ventures into android life—a key element in the Alien lore. Hawley's decision to set the story on Earth breaks from the franchise's tradition of confined, space-based horror, offering a fresh perspective. “What happens if you can't contain it?” Hawley asks, underscoring the immediate danger posed by the xenomorphs on a global scale.

The stellar ensemble cast features Alex Lawther (The End of the F**ing World*), Essie Davis (The Babadook), and Timothy Olyphant (Justified), alongside Sydney Chandler, who portrays Wendy, a unique character described as a meta-human. Additional cast members include Kit Young (Shadow and Bone), Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger), and Sandra Yi Sencindiver (Foundation), ensuring a rich array of talent.

After production delays caused by the actor's strike, filming resumed earlier this year in Thailand and recently concluded. Fans can now look forward to this gripping series debuting on Hulu in the summer of 2025.

The teaser for Alien: Earth presents a tantalizing glimpse of what could be a groundbreaking addition to the franchise. Setting the story on Earth introduces new possibilities, expanding the tension and stakes beyond the confines of space. Noah Hawley's involvement inspires confidence, given his ability to deliver complex, character-driven narratives.

The timeline decision—placing the series just before the original Alien—is a clever move, allowing for fresh storytelling while remaining tied to the established canon. However, there's some risk in deviating from the franchise's iconic space-based horror, as fans might resist too drastic a departure from its roots.

The cast lineup is particularly exciting, with seasoned actors like Timothy Olyphant and rising stars such as Sydney Chandler promising layered performances. Overall, Alien: Earth has the potential to reinvigorate the Alien legacy, offering a compelling mix of familiar terror and innovative storytelling.

What are your thoughts on setting Alien: Earth on our home planet? Do you think it enhances the stakes or strays too far from the franchise's core?
