The “Tomb Raider” franchise is about to get a thrilling new chapter, and fans couldn't be more excited. Amazon MGM Studios is gearing up for an epic live-action series adaptation, with production slated to kick off in early 2025. This latest venture promises to bring the iconic Lara Croft back into the spotlight, under the expert guidance of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creative genius behind “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve.”

In recent interviews, Vernon Sanders, the head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, shared some tantalizing details about the project. He confirmed that Phoebe Waller-Bridge will not only executive produce the series but might also pen the entire script. This news alone has generated a buzz, considering Waller-Bridge's track record of creating compelling, character-driven narratives.

Sanders revealed that the team is currently in the preparation phase, with a global casting search for Lara Croft about to commence.

“We are hard at work. We've got great material. Phoebe [Waller-Bridge] is really good. We're really excited,”

Sanders said.

“My guess is we'll spend the rest of this year getting things prepped so that we can start production early next year.”

The series will be part of a broader “Tomb Raider” universe that Amazon is developing, which includes a new film and a game. This interconnected multimedia universe aims to offer a cohesive and immersive experience for fans, bridging different forms of media in innovative ways.

Interestingly, this new live-action series is separate from the upcoming “Tomb Raider” anime set to premiere on Netflix in October. The anime, featuring Hayley Atwell as the voice of Lara Croft, is set within the continuity of the 2013-2018 game reboot trilogy and serves as a sequel to those games.

With filming set to begin in early 2025, fans are eagerly awaiting more updates, especially regarding the cast and specific release dates. The anticipation is palpable as Amazon prepares to breathe new life into one of gaming's most beloved franchises. Keep an eye out for more news as the global search for the perfect Lara Croft begins and production gears up for what promises to be an exhilarating adventure.

The “Tomb Raider” series, backed by Waller-Bridge's distinctive storytelling flair, is shaping up to be a must-watch event. Whether you're a long-time fan of the franchise or new to Lara Croft's world, this series is sure to deliver action, intrigue, and a fresh take on a classic heroine.
