Andy Samberg (Saturday Night Live) has signed on to star alongside Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation) in Celeste and Jesse Forever.
The romantic dramedy follows the titular couple nearing the end of their relationship; Celeste and Jesse finalize their divorce, but attempt to remain friends in the end.
Jones co-wrote the script with long-time actor, first-time scribe Will McCormack. Lee Toland Krieger (The Vicious Kind) will helm.
Trying to describe the film, Jones tells 24 Frames:
Our movie is about two people who love each other a ton but they don't know what to do with that love, and how do you let that person go.”
Not exactly your ordinary romantic comedy, especially when Jones goes on to compare the movie to the classic When Harry Met Sally and the recent motion-picture bummer Blue Valentine. But expect heaps of laughs en route — this is the co-star of The Office, I Love You, Man, and the Sundance hit My Idiot Brother.
Jones adds,
It's hard to find female leads that are flawed and interesting and dynamic. We wanted to write something that was in the vein of Judd Apatow — you talk like you actually talk with your friends — but with ladies.”
Celeste and Jesse Forever has been slowly coming to realization over the past few years, but with the addition of Samberg and its firm schedule, expect solid break-up plans soon; he means to film Celeste and Jesse next, prior to the summer shoot of I Hate You, Dad with Adam Sandler.
Are you thrilled?
