Of course, when we say Pattinson’s movie, we actually think that Mr. Twilight is playing the central character, George Duroy, a sexy social climber in turn-of-the-century 1890s Paris, who seduces his way to wealth and fame from a poor beginning.
Or, as he previously explained:
“We were really true to the book and because the guy is basically a shit who wins everything at the end it’s really difficult to market it – especially with me in it.” He also added:
“Everyone’s worried that everyone’s going to be thinking, ‘Oh I want him to be nice, he’s got to be nice to all the ladies.”
And, as for the ladies he mentions, we must admit he definitely has some great company on board as well, and the rest of the cast includes Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci and Natalia Tena.
Thurman plays the wife of one of Duroy’s friends who eventually marries Pattinson’s seductive schemer. Kristin Scott Thomas also stars as a woman who overestimates Duroy’s attachment to her.
As you already guess, Bel Ami is based on the book by Guy de Maupassant and Rachel Bennette is responsible for the screenplay.
Directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, this movie definitely looks great, and if you don’t trust us, well…here’s the trailer, so enjoy it!
