Breaking Bad star
Aaron Paul has signed on as one of the leads in the upcoming DreamWorks
Need for Speed, a big screen adaptation of the best selling Electronic Arts video game.
The studio announced today a
February 7th March 14th, 2014 release date for the car racing project, which
Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) is set to direct.
A DreamWorks release said the movie will be
rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the '70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise. In Need for Speed, the cars are hot, the racing is intense and the story keeps players at the edge of their seat.
Said Patrick Soderlund, executive at EA in a statement:
Like the game series itself, the cast for the movie needs to be edgy and cool. Aaron Paul is a rising star — a great choice for the film lead.
The story that comes from brothers
George and
John Gatins was inspired by the game series, but isn't based on any one title.
A two-time Emmy winner for his breakthrough performance on the show Breaking Bad, Paul has also starred in multiple indie films including Twisted, Choking Man, and Day Dreamer and done some small movie parts, including Mission: Impossible III.
Paul also played the lead role of Francis in the 2009 remake of Wes Craven's The Last House on the Left.
