Tom Hanks and a crew of Somali pirates – that’s what this latest poster for Captain Phillips is all about. Of course, it arrives just in time to remind us that the movie opens next month and that The Bourne Ultimatum helmer Paul Greengrass stands behind the whole thing. Oh, wait, there’s also a reminder that the movie is based on a true story, and well… out there, survival is everything, so let’s give them a try!
As you already know, this action thriller will tell the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.
In other words, the film focuses on the relationship between the Alabama’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips, played by Hanks, and his Somali counterpart, Muse, played by Barkhad Abdi.
Beside Hanks and Abdi, the rest of Captain Phillips cast includes Catherine Keener, Max Martini, Yul Vazquez, Michael Chernus, Chris Mulkey, Corey Johnson, David Warshofsky, John Magaro, and as we said at the beginning – the movie is set to hit theaters on October 11th, 2013.
