Christopher Nolan On Inception

Fiona September 19, 2011 1 comment
Inception There are mysteries that can be solved. One of them is Christopher Nolan‘s new movie titled Inception. We all wondered – why is this story so different, what's so magical about that, and finally it looks like we got the answer. And no, it's not (just) about Leonardo DiCaprio! Continue reading and find out what's so interesting about this upcoming project… There's no better way to start this “mystery” report, than “synopsis-way”. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio “as a specialist in the new branch of corporate espionage, he's a dream thief who plucks secrets from the minds of tycoons after pumping them full of drugs and hooking them up to a mysterious contraption. The problem, though, is the land of nod can be volatile, as can DiCaprio's character, Dom Cobb, who is a wounded dreamer after the loss of his beloved wife.” Since we know it's hard to make any conclusion from this, we're going to share with you some interesting parts of Nolan's interview (thanks to LA Times) that we think could help you all get more into the whole Inception thing. So, the director said: “I originally wrote it as a heist movie and heist movies traditionally are very deliberately superficial in emotional terms. They're frivolous and glamorous, and there's a sort of gloss and fun to it. I originally tried to write it that way, but when I came back to it I realized that, to me, that didn't work for a film that relies so heavily on the idea of the interior state, the idea of dream and memory. I realized I needed to raise the emotional stakes.” On the other hand, seems that this collaboration between Nolan and DiCaprio is very serious, since Nolan also mentioned that he incorporated a huge number of actor's ideas, and that “He's very analytical, particularly from character point of view but also how the entire story is going to function and relate to his character… I think it's improved the project enormously. The emotional life of the character now drives the story more than it did before.” We have no doubt about that! One thing that's very unique with this project is the fact that director wanted to do this for a very long time, or, as he said: “It's something I've thought about off and on since I was about 16. I wrote the first draft of this script seven or eight years ago, but it goes back much further, this idea of approaching dream and the dream life as another state of reality.” So we could all guess this could really be something special, indeed! Inception cost $160 million, it was shot in at least six countries, and we finally had a chance to hear more details about it! So the only thing now is to wait July and see can this be the next blockbuster?

I love being able to see the dream machine, PASIV device, that’s going to be in the movie. The fake instruction manual was so cool!
