David Oyelowo Joins Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN
Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming Lincoln is getting bigger! Now we have David Oyelowo on board for the movie which already stars Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, John Hawkes, Jackie Earle Haley, Lee Pace, Hal Holbrook and James Spader.
That's one hell of the cast, but I guess it's totally normal thing for Spielberg's projects.
So, Rise of the Planet of the Apes star Oyelowo comes on board to play the role of a cavalryman. Not much of a description, but we understand that David is very busy these days, so we don't expect him to have a spectacular role in this one.
And although we know that Lincoln is based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's best-selling book, Team of Rivals which focuses on the life of the former President, his rise to politics and his role in the Civil War, according to Spielberg – it will only take place in the last few months of his Presidency and life.
Director also revealed:
“I was interested in how he ended the war through all the efforts of his generals…but more importantly how he passed the 13th Amendment into constitutional law. The Emancipation Proclamation was a war powers act and could have been struck down by any court after the war ended. But what permanently ended slavery was the very close vote in the House of Representatives over the 13th Amendment – that story I'm excited to tell.”
We'll keep an eye on Lincoln so make sure you stay tuned for more updates!
