David Wain To Direct Too Cool To Be Forgotten
David Wain is reportedly in line to direct Too Cool To Be Forgotten, based on the Top Shelf graphic novel by Alex Robinson.
We all remember this director from titles like The State, Stella, The Ten, Role Models and now, it looks like he's one step closer to make his first comic book-based film.
So, this upcoming project could be something fresh & clean indeed, although there are some rumors (at Pajiba) that describe this movie as Hot Tub Time Machine Without the Hot Tub.
Yeah, well, the story follows a forty year old man who attempts to break a life long smoking habit through hypnosis. Instead he finds himself transported back into his teenage body.
Or, if you prefer the full synopsis: “Andy Wicks is a forty-something father of two who's tried everything to quit smoking – from going cold turkey, to the latest patches and nicotine chewing gums, so he figures he'll give this hypnosis thing a try. What's the worst that could happen?
Unfortunately, Andy gets dealt a fate worse than death – high school! Transported back to 1985, Andy returns to his formative years as a gangly, awkward teenager. Is he doomed to relive the mistakes of his past, or has he been given a second chance to get things right? One thing's for sure: this time he's going to ask out that girl from math class…”
You go to a hypnotist to quit smoking, but instead of say goodbye to cigarettes, you wake up in high school in 1985. But still, it's kind of interesting.
Unfortunately, there's no word yet on who might be up for the lead role, although there are some speculations that include Paul Rudd and Michael Ian Black, or when production might begin, but one thing is for sure – Anthony Bregman from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind will produce the whole thing.
We're happy to hear Wain is busy nowadays, especially because we all know that he's a truly gifted comedic filmmaker. It's hard to imagine anybody else directing something that's titled Too Cool To Be Forgotten, right?
We'll keep you informed as we learn more, until then – stay cool!
