Diane Kruger to Play in Stephenie Meyer’s THE HOST
Inglorious Basterds star Diane Kruger joins a cast of writer/director Andrew Niccol‘s The Host that was already pretty impressive and includes Saoirse Ronan, William Hurt, Max Irons and Jake Abel.
The thesp will apparently play The Seeker, the villain of sorts who is charged to watch over Melanie (Ronan), the conversion of a young rebel warrior whose consciousness has been taken over by Wanderer, a soul that has taken control of bodies and minds but who is overwhelmed by the young human's spirit, obsessed with the memories of her boyfriend and her brother and sets out to track them down. The Seeker pursues her, knowing that the conversion of the rebel will lead to the eradication of the rebel movement.
Irons plays a young man in love with Melanie and Abel plays a young man in love with Wanderer, with Hurt in talks to play a rebel leader.
Kruger was previously a candidate for a lead role in Universal's untitled sci-fi pic (Oblivion) but withdrew from consideration and took The Host.
Niccol (In Time, Gattaca) is directing Stephenie Meyer's latest book-turned-film, being set up as the first in a trilogy and set for release on March 29th, 2013.
The Host production is set to start soon, probably in Louisiana next month .
As for Kruger, she made a cameo appearance in an April 2010 episode of the Fox show Fringe and it was announced that she had replaced Eva Green in the role of Marie Antoinette in the upcoming French-language film, Les Adieux à la Reine
