Disney Plans to Remake Flight of the Navigator
Disney is developing a remake of the 1986 sci-fi adventure film “Flight of the Navigator.” Brad Copeland (Wild Hogs) is writing the updated script.
The original movie centered on a 12-year-old boy (Joey Cramer) who is abducted by an alien spacecraft. The ship only removed him from Earth for a few hours, but when he returns to his home 8 years has passed and he’s still only 12. When NASA discovers the connection between the boy’s strange situation and a captured UFO, they try to exploit him for the data stored in his brain. The boy escapes with the ship and tries to reunite with his family.
The movie grossed only $17 million when it was released but was later rediscovered on VHS, becoming a cult hit.
“Flight of the Navigator” starred Joey Cramer, Veronica Cartwright, Cliff De Young and Sarah Jessica Parker. Paul Reubens provided the voice of Max, the robotic pilot of the spaceship. According to the Hollywood Reporter, John Hyde, who executive produced the first one, steps into the same role for the new version.
