DREDD Director Fired During Post-Production

Travis-Garland

Dredd, the remake of the 1995 Sylvester Stallone vehicle Judge Dredd is currently in the phase of post-production and Pete Travis, who completed shooting the film earlier this year is asked to step aside as a director and pass the reigns on to the writer-producer on the film, the screenwriter Alex Garland. Some blogs suggest the possibility that Travis has done more harm than good and that the conflict began while the movie was still in production. However, this is not necessarily the sign of a bad picture and looking in the past, this isn't the first time that something like this has happened. It takes a little longer that way, but results like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time speak for themselves. Also, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra has seen its director kicked out of the editing room. As you might remember, Travis was coming off a mid-budget hit in Vantage Point, while the new Dredd movie was to be scripted by Garland, a well-respected writer who had films like 28 Days Later. Yes, I must admit it's rarer for a situation evolves to a point where a new co-director is named. Reshoots are a possibility as well, so who knows. What is already known is that Garland did not shoot the movie and has never been credited with directing a picture before. The new version, still scheduled to be released on September 21, 2012 stars Karl Urban as the futuristic urban law enforcer, along with Lena Headey, Olivia Thirlby and Domhnall Gleeson co-starring. Check out the Judge Dredd Trailer with Sylvester Stallone. Stay tuned.
