Although it was recently announced it will screen
In Competition at this year's
Cannes Film Festival, we haven't seen any footage from
John Hillcoat‘s
Lawless, until today as this fantastic trailer arrives online.
So, we finally see
Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and
Jason Clarke in action, as brothers who have started a dangerous bootlegging business as well as an impressive secondary cast that includes
Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain and
Mia Wasikowska.
Dangerous guys, machine guns, Hardy getting into fights, Oldman and Pearce as villains in just one trailer? What more could you possibly want?
After
The Road and
The Proposition, this is the third Hillcoat's feature-length film and the first time the director has tackled a true historical story about the American south based on Matt Bondurant's novel
The Wettest County in the World.
The Prohibition-era set thriller was once being referred to as
The Wettest County, and for some reason it's now called
Lawless.
It is really great to see all these actors in the one movie.
First off, as we mentioned, we've got LaBeouf, Clarke and Hardy playing the Bondurant Boys, Gary Oldman playing the big-time crook they're working for, then Guy Pearce as the corrupt authority figure brought in to make sure they're either getting shut down or giving the government their required cut of the profits.
Lawless will premiere at the
Cannes Film Festival next month and opens in the US on August 31st, 2012.
