G.I. Joe 2 In Summer 2012

Fiona December 12, 2011 1 comment
GI Joe A sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is in the pipeline for a 2012 release, it has been announced. Guess we all remember this 2009 action blockbuster starring Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller, that took more than $300 million in ticket sales and much more in toy and merchandising sales. So, as you see, it looks like G.I. Joe 2 will join some tough competition, since we all know Batman 3, Spider-Man, The Avengers, Battleship and Star Trek 2 are all expected to open at a similar time. So, no big details about this one yet, but Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura says Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are working on a script for the follow-up, which could begin shooting next spring for a summer 2012 release. Looks like he's pretty satisfied with their work, since he said: “I've had an occasion to read some of their pages, so I know the quality is there and the sense of tone is there. Paramount is very excited about us getting it going. No dates have been set. In our heads we think 2012 – that summer.” So, as you see, it's early to talk about some plot, but still, producer explained that: “You always want to evolve things forward. We're not just going to settle for the same weaponry or the same toys that we had before. I mean that more in a military sense than in a kid sense. I think's part of the component of G.I. Joe. are those advanced technologies, what can they do and how do they work? – and just some fun to the gizmos. It's part of that brand.” It is also unclear which of the characters from the first film will return, or, as di Bonaventura mentioned: “They all did great and we liked them all. It's hard to manage as many characters as we tried. It would make life a little easier to have a few less. It'd be a hard decision to lose anybody, because they all did great.” And, at the end of this report, and just in case you're wondering, there's no decision yet on whether it will be in 3D, with di Bonaventura explaining: “I'd definitely be open to it, but that's Paramount's decision. But myself and whoever the director is would have a big say in that. But at this point, we haven't gotten into that conversation.” Yeah, definitely looks like summer 2012 is going to be very, very hot one! Get ready, and stay tuned for more information about G.I. Joe 2.
