Gale Anne Hurd, CEO of Valhalla Motion Pictures, is looking to develop The Nameless, a spec script from writer Chris Billett.
Anne Hurd, Arsenal fun, said about the spec for her first move since the success of AMC’s zombie series The Walking Dead (2010):
I love that it’s character driven. That is very important to me. And secondly, I’m attracted to material about ordinary people who are facing extraordinary circumstances who find the strength within them to fight against impossible odds.”
The Nameless, defined as a modern day Western, is set in a high-threat environment operated by the U.S. Marshal’s Federal Witness Protection Program (WITSEC), arranging new identities for approved applicants. After the area’s location has been compromised, more idealistic marshal confronted with town’s inhabitants against assassin squad determined to execute the government’s key witness to the crime in the approaching trial.
Chris Billett worked in various thriller genres, character driven and suspense story (Unrest, Callous). He previously penned the indie psychological thriller, Isolation, which was directed by Stephen Kay. Billett was also been busy developing a television crime-drama.
Speaking of Valhalla, they aim to develop and produce the movie most likely offering potential investors. Talking about it, Hurd says:
The mid-range films are often not financed or made by studios. If you look at film festivals such as the recent Berlin Film Festival, a lot of independent films are being picked up for distribution. Hopefully there’s a renaissance for the distribution for independent fare.”
Hurd is as well experienced in the sci-fi and action sphere with credit scores ranging from The Terminator, Aliens to The Incredible Hulk and The Punisher, and is in the middle of preparing Season 2 of “Walking Dead” and in post-production on TV movie “Last Man Standing.”
We may be a little bit surprised if thriller elements would be combined with science fiction.
