Guy Ritchie to Direct The Cannonball Run Remake?
Another remake is coming, and Sherlock Holmes helmer Guy Ritchie is attached to direct it. We're talking about 1981 Hal Needham‘s comedy The Cannonball Run that back then starred Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore, Dom DeLuise, Jackie Chan, Dean Martin and Farrah Fawcett.
And I hope you're sitting right now, because we've just learned that Ritchie wants George Clooney to play the role Burt Reynolds played in the original!
Original film followed Burt Reynolds as car driver J.J. McClure. Playing his mild-mannered mechanic counterpart, Victor Prinzim, is DeLuise.
Together, they participate in the Cannonball Run in an ambulance – a heavily modified Dodge Tradesman van. In an attempt to appear legitimate to law enforcement, Victor hires Doctor Nikolas Van Helsing, a frightening, yet friendly, physician of questionable skill played by Jack Elam.
They kidnap attractive young photographer Pamela Glover (Fawcett) – whom they nickname “Beauty” – to be their cover patient. Though Beauty vehemently opposes this at first, she eventually warms to the idea of being a participant in the race and to her unlikely “captors.”
According to the latest reports, the shooting of the remake will begin this fall.
But we prefer to talk about some official details, and until that happens – make sure you stay tuned.
And, let us know what you think – George Clooney as J.J. McClure?
