Fan of B-class films, ironic and critical,
James Gunn belongs to the new generation of indie filmmakers who express a peculiar view of the American people.
Well, the director of Super, Gunn is now the primary contender to take the director's chair for an adaptation of the Marvel's comic book series, ‘
Guardians of the Galaxy'.
We already learned that screenwriter
Chris McCoy had been hired to rewrite the
Nicole Perlman's original script for the Marvel studio's original property on the Phase Two slate. Gunn has essentially no experience directing big budget fare, but he's proved to create horror and drama and blends it in perfectly with the element of comedy (Gunn previously directed the horror comedy Slither).
Other directors that are also in the running include
Peyton Reed (Yes Man, Bring It On) and the directing duo
Ryan Fleck and
Anna Boden (Half Nelson, It's Kind of a Funny Story).
Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be one hell of a feature film: an alien ensemble of superheros include Drax The Destroyer, a human resurrected as a warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos (that smiling baddie at the end of The Avengers), Star-Lord, a half-human/half-alien ‘intergalactic vigilante', Groot, a giant tree, Gamora, the last survivor of her species who is saved by Thanos to be his assassin but who now battles him, and of course there's the talking Rocket Raccoon.
Marvel Studios won't comment on deals and negotiations in progress.
Stay tuned.
