Although the recent report on the 28 Weeks Later's person in charge Juan Carlos Fresnadillo might create The Crow reboot, Fangoria latest news about that is another Spanish director F. Javier Gutiérrez who would be responsible for conducting.
Gutiérrez was writing and directing the sci-fi thriller Before the Fall (‘Tres Días”), of the family to survive the end of the world. Despite the fact of Gutiérrez's not too long resume ( + two short films), he still impressed enough to shoot “The Crow” reboot, according to Fangora source. Gutiérrez is director in perspective with multiple movies in development including House of Horror, a film he is making under Insidious and Saw creator James Wan.
As you know “The Crow” is a 1994 thriller based on the 1989 comic book of the same name by James O'Barr. And during the last weeks of production, Brandon Lee was mortally wounded by a dummy bullet. The film was a critical and commercial success after its release.
Cast problems were, just maybe, the result of an accidental mortal on filming the original and Gutiérrez would be brave enough to bypass that heritage. There have been a few more directors attached such as Stephen Norrington (Blade)
Currently, “Dark Horse”‘s most successful licenses geeks are only waiting to hear something get confirmed with this reboot or see it into development limbo. After rumors like Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter) starring as The Crow or Stephen Norrington directing or even that the movie would start shooting last summer with gothic rock star Nick Cave to pen the script, any official news will surely be welcome.
Anyway, best to reboot the old than come up with new, as movie studios say.
What are your thoughts on F. Javier Gutiérrez may step in to direct this reboot?
