John Malkovich in Talks for a Part in the Zombie/Romance Film WARM BODIES
As Jonathan Levine gears up to film his big-screen version of Isaac Marion's zombie romance novel Warm Bodies, he's slotted in one of the remaining big pieces of casting, adding Hollywood great John Malkovich to the core group of thesps that includes Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer and Rob Corddry.
The story of zombie pic Warm Bodies is set post-apocalyptic world where the undead outnumber the living and finds X-Men: First Class' Nicholas Hoult as R, a zombie who experiences a major existential crisis while snacking on his latest victim.
After striking up an unlikely friendship with the unfortunate man's girlfriend (Teresa Palmer), he starts to question what it is to be a zombie and finds his humanity creeping back in. Soon, his new attitude is pushing a chain reaction out among his fellow brain-eaters, including his mate M (Rob Corddry), the first to follow his lead.
Malkovich will play Palmer's father, General Grigio. As the leader of one of the few remaining human strongholds, he's obsessed with wiping zombies from the face of the Earth.
Jonathan Levine (50/50) is writing and directing the film that he will shoot soon for a 2012 release.
Twice Award-nominated for his roles in Places in the Heart and In the Line of Fire, Malkovich was most recently seen in Transformers: Dark of the Moon and he will soon produce the film version of the book The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
The role of General Grigio will mark another villainous turn for Malkovich, who has made a career of playing the bad guy. However, watch him in the trailer for the action-comedy Red for which he was lately nominated for the Satellite Award for Best Actor.
Stay tuned.
