Luke Evans and Alice Eve in James McTeigue’s The Raven
What would happen if a serial killer challenged poet Edgar Allan Poe to solve a series of killings inspired by his own stories?
That's exactly what the upcoming thriller, titled The Raven, and directed by James McTeigue, will try to answer.
And very soon, because the project begins shooting in late October. Today, more casting updates on this one!
Luke Evans and Alice Eve are in negotiations to star opposite John Cusack in a story that will follow:
“Evans character, a detective who partners with Poe (Cusack) to search for a serial killer who has kidnapped the author's fiancee (Eve) and gone on a murder spree that mimics the author's work.”
Let us also remind you that Jeremy Renner was originally set to play the part of the detective, but had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict with the fourth “Mission: Impossible.”
The Raven is based on a Hannah Shakespeare and Ben Livingston script and documents the last five days of Poe's life, when a serial killer is running around Baltimore using Poe's stories as the backdrops to his killings.
Director McTeigue previously explained:
“It's sort of ‘Se7en' meets a series of Poe stories. It's set in 1850s Baltimore, and it's about creating Poe's version of 1850s Baltimore, him moving through it. So it has a lot of the Poe stories interwoven into it.”
Intrepid Principals Trevor Macy and Marc D Evans will produce with Film Nation's Aaron Ryder.
Shooting on The Raven begins November 9th with Serbia and Budapest standing in for 1849 Baltimore.
We'll keep an eye on this project, so make sure you stay tuned!
