Nick Martin March 7, 2013 Add a Comment
Melissa Leo Oblivion, the new sci-fi epic from director Joseph Kosinski have added another Oscar winner to its already stellar cast. The Fighter actress Melissa Leo is going sci-fi, joining the futuristic Universal Pictures thriller that stars Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough and Olga Kurylenko. Production have already gotten started in Baton Rouge. The sophomore feature from Kosinski, best known for helming TRON: Legacy is based on Kosinski's own graphic novel set in a future where humanity has fallen to an irradiated Earth. Cruise plays Jak, a veteran soldier working on the planet's surface alongside another worker, Vika (Kurylenko). When a woman, Julia (Riseborough), crash-lands nearby,, Jak's whole world is thrown into question and he finds himself strangely drawn towards Julia. Leo recently completed work on Robert Zemeckis' return to live-action, Flight, the drama which co-stars Denzel Washington as an alcoholic and drug-addicted pilot who rises to fame after flying a damaged plane to safety. The actress is currently shooting the third season of the HBO series Treme in New Orleans, which is also where filming on Oblivion just got underway. Oblivion is slated for an April 19th, 2013 release.
