Michel Gondry’s Future Projects: Megalomania, The We and The I and Untitled Ellen Page Movie

Michel GondryMichel Gondry, the famous French filmmaker seems to be very busy these days. Although he's currently in post-production on Sony's The Green Hornet, he's already thinking about new projects, and one of them is something that, you must admit, sounds pretty interesting – experimental project called The We and The I. So we have his word, that after finishing his work on The Green Hornet Gondry will move to the mentioned project which is actually based on his You'll Like This Film Because You're In It book. You could call that story little bit crazy, especially when you read this: “It's about the group effect, how people in groups transform when the group is dislocated, because everyone jumps out of the bus at different times, there is a smaller group and how the relationships evolve.” How about that, guys? When he was asked whether it's going to be another science-fiction project, Gondry answered: “No, it's kids on a bus, it's more like a social thing. It's not actors, it's going to be kids from a school in the Bronx. I love kids and just regular people too because they are not polluted by the medium. They come as they are and they have beautiful stories to tell, so I want to show that.” The We and The I comes from a longtime fascination of Gondry's: “I was kind of a loner when I was at school, I was hanging with the girls mostly, not the boys. I couldn't understand why the boys were so stupid when they were in groups and why they would allow themselves to be so mean to each other. This movie is talking about that.” We can't wait to see this, since we very well know that this is a man who tells stories about people and their lives while questioning our definitions of reality. His characters are honest and human and his worlds playfully reflect the interaction between the worlds we live in: nature, society, and the mind. The script already exists and we have all the kids but they just have to find the right time to shoot it. And if you're little disappointed about ‘The Master of Space and Time', we have a little surprise for you! Another “similar” time travel project that he won't even reveal the title for is on, and seems that Gondry wants Ellen Page to star in as the lead! Check what he said: “I'm developing a screenplay with a writer right now about kids who travel the future by mistake and a machine that keeps people younger… ehhh, it's complicated to explain. Ellen Page is supposed to be the main character. She'd play Nancy… a young woman who participates in the discovery and changes the world.” Another of Gondry's ongoing projects is Megalomania which is being co-directed by Gondry and his son Paul from Dan Clowes‘ screenplay. Megalomania is an animation and we now know that the film's voice cast is going to include Seth Rogen, Juliette Lewis and Steve Buscemi. “It's about three kids who discover how to create energy from hair. And they shave everyone on the planet. The rich people wear and rule the world. So the rich people wear wigs and the poor people are just bald. And they want to make a better world, but the maker – which is sort of based on my son – is a horrible dictator,” Gondry said. And another interesting news – Gondry has promised MTV that a Green Hornet trailer has been cut and will be coming in the Spring or Summer. He describes it: “You see Kato and Seth deciding why they want to be crime fighters. Then you see images of their completion. It's pretty violent, but with a good spirit.” We hope you liked this news, we sure did! Yes, he is busy right now, but still we hope to see these new projects as soon as possible. And after hearing all his ideas, we must say it's no wonder he has been named a genius by too many people to count!
