It’s just Kosta’s imagination. He’s dreaming about his wedding, he’s in paradise and he meets this woman. They jump in the lake, spend some time diving and searching for each other under the water. However, she soon turns into a butterfly…Sounds a bit tragic and sad, but according to Kusturica, the film will actually speak about the timeless topic – the topic of kindness, ’cause (as he said): if there isn’t kindness, one day will have nothing to turn the earth’s axis. Kusturica wrote the script together with his daughter Dunja Kusturica, and is also playing the main role: a hard-luck man who decides to become a monk. Bellucci, on the other hand, stars as his love interest:
Emir is unpredictable, we talk about the movie and it’s like – the basis of the story is pretty much the same, but no one knows how the film will end, the details change every day. For me – it is a good way to make a movie. On the Milky Road is inspired by Kusturica’s short film Our Life, and consists of three stories: the first story is about a soldier with a task to get milk in the nearby village and take it to fellow soldiers. The second is about a woman who gives him the milk, and the third is about an ex-soldier (now a monk) who, when he finishes all daily duties, climbs up the cliff with a bucket of rocks to empty it. Or, if you prefer:
The movie unfolds as a three part narrative following three challenging periods of this man’s life, both for him and his native land: on the difficult period while at war, on a blossoming time when he falls in love for a woman who is willing to sacrifice all to save him, and during his last days as a reclusive monk which looks back to his turbulent life. The film is expected to appear next year at the film festival in Cannes, so I guess we’ll soon have more updates (read: more pics & at least some teaser) to share. Stay tuned!
