Look! This Barnabas isn’t look too much like Willy Wonka or the Mad Hatter here that those initial set photos suggested. Plus Johnny Depp is looking twenty years younger next to Michelle Pfeiffer who looks flustered, plus check out those amazing costumes designed by three time Oscar-winner Colleen Atwood.
Like the black and white TV series, Dark Shadows centers on Barnabas Collins, a man who, just before the Revolutionary War, is turned into a vampire and subsequently buried alive in a coffin for just about 200 years. When he comes back in the very changed world of 1972, he seeks out his successors, and finds them at his Collinwood manor little better than his ruined estate.
The original TV series was created by Dan Curtis, while the new film is written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who made his Hollywood entry writing novels and whose books are currently being adapted into films Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (with Burton producing) and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
The full cast also includes Jonny Lee Miller, Eva Green, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Jackie Earle Haley, and Chloe Moretz.
Tim Burton‘s upcoming Dark Shadows opens on May 11th, 2012.
