Sony Pictures has released a new theatrical trailer for director
David O. Russell‘s new film
American Hustle, which defies genre, hinges on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.
The film is loosely based on the real life story of the notorious FBI Abscam sting operation of the late 70s that resulted in the conviction of a US senator and five members of the House of Representatives on corruption charges, starring
Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and
Jennifer Lawrence.
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer shows the cast fantastic and both actors – Bale and Cooper- are bringing their Oscar-worthy talent back to the big screen. Moreover, there's a hint of suspense, violence and a little bit of humor and they've ramped things up with great music and good editing too.
Co-starring
Louis C.K., Michael Pena, and
Jack Jones,
American Hustle is set for a December 13th release in New York and Los Angeles, expanding everywhere on December 25th, 2013.
Hit the jump to see Russell's wending his way back to his offbeat roots such as
Goodfellas.

Synopsis:
A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that's as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving's unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell's previous films, American Hustle defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.
