‘No Country Fod Old Man’ Hailed Best Film of the Year at 80th Academy Awards

The acclaimed crime drama “No Country for Old Men” has swept away the 80th Annual Academy Awards as the Coen brothers-directed film brought home four top prizes at the special awards event held at the Kodak Theater on Sunday, February 24. Being the dominating film of the night, the adaptation drama nabbed the coveted Best Film prize stepping aside “Michael Clayton” and “There Will Be Blood”.

Accepting the award alongside his brother Ethan, Joel Coen remarked the brothers’ early days on film-making. He humbly said, “What we do now doesn’t feel that much different from what we were doing then. We’re very thankful to all of you out there for continuing to let us play in our corner of the sandbox.”

Apart from winning the much wanted award, the film also brought recognition to its helmers, Joel and Ethan Coen, and to its star Javier Bardem. The filmmaker-brothers have received the Best Director kudo as well as Best Adapted Screenplay, whereas the Spanish actor was honored with the Best Supporting Actor prize making him the first Spanish actor to take away Oscar.

On the part of Best Actor, Daniel Day-Lewis as many predicted garnered the top male performer kudo for his exceptional portrayal of a greedy oil man in “Blood”. On his speech, the British actor said, “My deepest thanks to the academy for whacking me with the handsomest bludgeon in town.” Other Oscar winners include Marion Cotillard and Tilda Swinton. The complete Oscar winners list can be read at Oscar.com or see the partial list below.
