Immediately after her Oscar for In a Better World, Danish director Susanne Bier is set to shoot All You Need is Love, a movie with a lighter theme, set in Italy's Amalfi coast. The movie, which Bier wrote with Pierce Brosnan in mind, has Brosnan as logical choice for a lead role in it.
Despite the fact Bier took a statuette for her youth-violence drama she was since known for melodrama. Bier has been directed war melodrama Brothers and the broken-family drama Things We Lost in the Fire; her English-language first appearance. The director reportedly said this week that her new flick is a romance with a more optimistic feel.
It's a tender story with a much lighter atmosphere than my previous works: Enough with conflicts,”
she told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica. An Italian newspaper also revealed “All You Need is Love” would follow a Danish family — although Brosnan doesn't speak Danish, we suppose family will speak English.
Brosnan called the new picture a “delightful love story” that combines the serious and hilarious.
It's a comedy — a love story which has punch and deals with loss and a great love.”
Brosnan has been familiar with romantic comedies (Mamma Mia!), and I hope he can do it better than in the recent religious thriller comedy Salvation Boulevard at Sundance.
All You Need is Love is produced by Zentropa with Italy's Teodora Film and Lionello Cerri's Lumiere on board as co-producers. It is scheduled for start shooting in Amalfi coast locations in May, a Teodora rep approved.
Last week we told that Bier was set to remake the French thriller Rapt, so presumably “Rapt” will follow.
