It was reported that
David Peoples,
Blade Runner scribe is currently working on a screenplay for the
Ridley Scott adaptation of
Joe Haldeman‘s 1974 novel
The Forever War.
With the fourth rewrite of the script it looked that this project is finally moving forward, (especially when we all know the fact that Scott and Peoples had previously worked together on Scott's above mentioned seminal science fiction film).
But, looks that we all had a bad rumor…
Today, we're here to update this news, because, according to
Deadline this is an “outdated information” and it's
Matthew Michael Carnahan (from
State of Play) who's currently working on the story that goes like this:
“
The Forever War is a contemplative story of soldiers fighting an interstellar war between humanity and the enigmatic Tauran species.
The pithy, insightful explorations of the inhumanity of war and of bureaucracy, and of the psychological effects resulting from time dilation space travel (a soldier returns home after centuries away).”
Author Haldeman said that no one let him take a crack at the script.
“I wasn't asked to submit a screenplay, though I've been a member of the Writers Guild for almost 30 years and have solid production credits.
No surprise. They don't want the book's author saying ‘Hold it! I wrote the book, and that's not the way it goes.”
We'll keep an eye on
The Forever War, so stay tuned!
