Legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott turns 87 this November, just in time for the release of his latest epic, Gladiator II. Despite his age, Scott's passion for cinema remains as fierce as ever. This enthusiasm was evident to Joseph Quinn, who plays Geta in the upcoming film. Quinn was struck by Scott's mastery on set, noting how he commanded and controlled the production with vigor and a genuine love for filmmaking.

“Watching him negotiate these brutal shoot days… as you said, he's not 32 anymore. But he conducts himself with such a vigor, and thirst, for life and also filmmaking, still—he just loves it, and that is very infectious,” Quinn shared. “Working with him… I was never expecting to do that, obviously, and so I was incredibly grateful.”

For Quinn and the rest of the cast, being present and giving their all was a primary goal. With Scott's dedication, they aimed to create a world in Gladiator II that would captivate audiences as thoroughly as the original did in 2000. “Outside of making the film itself, it was a very rare experience as a human being to bear witness to ancient Rome. He built ancient Rome! Not a lot of people can do that—Ridley Scott can,” Quinn added. “He is a world builder. He creates these films that utterly transport you, and that is a very rare thing to be able to do.”

While Scott's previous film, Napoleon, may not have achieved the sweeping epic status he hoped for, Gladiator II is positioned to hit that mark. Set for a fall release, the sequel boasts some of the grandest action sequences ever captured on film. With a staggering budget of over $300 million, this film represents another monumental gamble for Scott.

However, fans and critics alike have faith that Scott will deliver a story that leaves audiences thoroughly entertained. As the trailer release approaches, anticipation for Gladiator II continues to build. Are you looking forward to the epic return of Gladiator? Do you think the original has stood the test of time? Share your thoughts and join the excitement for what promises to be another cinematic masterpiece from Ridley Scott.
