OK guys, this is not an official thing yet, but, according to some reports, it's more than just a rumor and it goes like this…
Ryan Reynolds is emerging as the frontrunner for a coveted role opposite
Denzel Washington in the thriller
Safe House.
Yes, Reynolds, you remember that guy, he's almost in every our report these days, currently shooting
Green Lantern, attached to Universal's
R.I.P.D, and
Wolverine, and…OK, that's enough, he's a busy man and we get it!
Director
Daniel Espinosa is in charge for the Safe House story that is “set in South America, and follows a young U.S. intelligence agent who must go on the run with a newly arrived prisoner after his titular safe house comes under attack – think of a mix between Collateral and Three Days of the Condor.”
Washington will be playing a dangerous prisoner who has to be transported to a second safe house after the first secret location is attacked and all of the CIA agents protecting him, except one (the role Reynolds is offered), are killed off.
And Reynolds is, like we said, the frontrunner for the role, since he beat competition like
James McAvoy, Zac Efron, Tom Hardy and
Shia LaBeouf.
Scott Stuber is producing the
David Guggenheim script, which was purchased by Universal earlier this year, while Trevor Macy will serve as the executive producer.
Folks from Universal are hoping for a 2012 release.
