Sean Penn is no longer attached to Tales From The Gangster Squad and Man Of Steel, but he's very interested in the upcoming Niels Arden Oplev‘s movie titled The Last Photograph that already has Christian Bale on board.
We're actually talking about the movie which has been in development for a while and is based on an idea by Zack Snyder, who set it up at Warner Bros after directing 300.
This time, The Last Photographer moves on to Dark Castle, where Joel Silver and Andrew Rona would come aboard as producers, for the story that is written by Synder's 300 co-writer Kurt Johnstad and is: “Set in Afghanistan, and follows a war correspondent who witnesses and is the only survivor of an attack on a group of Americans.
A retired ex-special ops soldier comes to the scene determined to free a family member who has been kidnapped. The journalist agrees to help identify the kidnappers and travel the rough terrain to find them, in exchange for the story. The road brings them in confrontation with tribal regions of Afghanistan, and none of the diplomats will help.”
As you already know, Bale is set to play that war correspondent, and, if everything works out fine, Penn would play a retired ex-special soldier.
The plan is to begin filming next year, after Bale completes The Dark Knight Rises.
We'll definitely keep an eye on The Last Photograph so – make sure you stay tuned!
