The magic of Disney is back on full display with the release of the trailer for the much-anticipated live-action “Snow White,” set to hit theaters on March 21, 2025. After years of speculation, controversy, and a substantial delay, fans finally get a peek at how Disney has reimagined one of its most iconic films.
The original plan to replace the Seven Dwarfs with “magical creatures” sparked significant backlash, leading Disney to reverse course and incorporate CGI dwarfs instead. This change followed the studio's announcement at their annual D23 convention, where they also dropped the new trailer. The film has faced scrutiny not only for its creative choices but also for its production budget, which has been reported to be as high as $330 million, according to some sources. Disney, however, has yet to confirm the exact figure.
Principal photography for “Snow White” began in March 2022 and wrapped by June of that year. However, the film has undergone multiple reshoots, the latest being in the summer of 2023, with Gal Gadot, who stars as the Evil Queen, confirming the additional shoots. Rachel Zegler, who takes on the titular role, has also been at the center of attention, particularly after her controversial comments on the original 1937 animated classic, calling it “weird” and describing Prince Charming as a “stalker.”
The film's creative team is led by Marc Webb, best known for “500 Days of Summer,” with the script penned by acclaimed writer Greta Gerwig. The star-studded cast includes Zegler, Gadot, Andrew Burnap, Ansu Kabia, Dujonna Gift, and Martin Klebba.
As we edge closer to its release, “Snow White” continues to be a film to watch, not only for its innovative take on a beloved story but also for the cultural conversations it has ignited. Disney's latest venture might just be the most talked-about release of 2025.
