Remake, remake! This time, Paramount is remaking the 1991 comedy
Soapdish and
Rob Reiner is set to produce this new version of the story about “an ambitious TV soap actress connives with her producer to scuttle the career of the show's long-time star, but nothing works as they plan”.
Worth for a remake? Well, why not, let the remake-trend continue! And this time there will be some changes, check out the rest of this report…
1991
Soapdish synopsis goes like this: “Celeste Talbert has been the queen of the soaps for over two decades. Montana Moorehead needs to get her out of her way before she can move on and begins her program to get her to leave.
She hires an old boyfriend of Celeste to be on the show and has Celeste become a murderer in the script, but each attempt has unforseen consequences.”
Sally Field as aging star Celeste Talbert,
Robert Downey Jr. as an ambitious producer,
Cathy Moriarty in a role of a jealous co-star and
Kevin Kline as her ex-lover were all the part of this movie cast.
Despite quite good cast, movie was only a modest box office success, bringing in $36 million.
But check this out: the new version “will be a Latino remake” that takes place on the set of a telenovela rather than a traditional American soap opera! So, at this moment the only thing we know is that this modern version will be produced by Rob Reiner (The Bucket List director) and co-produced by
Alan Greisman who produced the original movie.
They're looking for screenwriters, but Reiner could be just the perfect director for Soapdish, right?
Anyway, we'll definitely keep an eye on this remake, so make sure you stay tuned. Who knows, maybe some interesting casting news are coming soon? Let's wait and see!
